When Is Your Book?
That's my most asked question from readers, and now I have an answer: The publication date for DYING TO CALL YOU is October 5.
My new mystery from Signet is set at a telemarketer's. I've got a confession: I've actually worked in that wretched job. In fact, I've worked for several telemarketing firms for background for this book. These were the worst jobs I've ever had.
If you've ever been a telemarketer -- or hung up on one -- you'll enjoy Helen's adventures in one of the most hated professions in America. She's cursed, blasted by police whistles and shot at -- and that's before she even uncovers the mystery.
DYING TO CALL YOU is a mystery you'll be dying to read.

Agatha Nominations!
I'm blown away, folks. I've just got word I've been nominated for three Agatha Awards.
SHOP TILL YOU DROP has been nominated for Best Novel.
RED MEAT, my short story in the MWA anthology, "Blood on their Hands" and
SEX AND BINGO, in "High Stakes" have been nominated for Best Short Story.
The Agathas are presented for traditional mysteries in the style of Agatha Christie.
The awards are given out at the Malice Domestic convention, in Washington DC, April 30 to May 2.
I'm absolutely thrilled.

THANK YOU READERS AND BOOKSELLERS
SHOP TILL YOU DROP has been nominated for a Lefty Award as the funniest mystery for 2003, from the Left Coast Crime Conference. It may be a funny award, but I'm seriously honored. Thanks to everyone who voted for my book.
SHOP was also named one of the top twelve mysteries by Borders, and featured in their catalogue. Thank you so much.
MURDER BETWEEN THE COVERS is the No. 1 paperback on the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association list. Thanks to all the hardworking booksellers who put me there.
The dedication for COVERS says it all: For booksellers everywhere: Your job is harder than it looks. Your influence is greater than you'll ever know.

Here Comes the Winner!
Thanks to Robin Agnew, I have my dead-end job for book four.
I'm now at a bridal salon.
Excellent choice, Robin. There's enough drama here for an opera, much less a mystery novel. The tears, the screams, the family fights.
There are tender moments, too, when misty-eyed moms first see their daughters in wedding white.
It's great material, and I'm not just talking about the dresses.
Robin wins an autographed copy of MURDER BETWEEN THE COVERS, which is a little redundant. She's the owner of Aunt Agatha's bookstore in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Next time you are in the area, stop by and say hi to Robin. Tell her Elaine sent you.
You can still win your own copy for my Dead-End Job contest. I'm looking for work for books five and six. So get me an awful job, and I'll get you a good book.

The deadline is approaching.
The third book in the Dead-End Job series, DYING TO CALL YOU, is due at my publisher's December 1. I'm writing feverishly to get it done on time. I expect to be chasing the FedEx truck down the street on Nov. 31.
The next day, December 2, MURDER BETWEEN THE COVERS debuts. That's the second book in the series. Helen works at a bookstore. I think you'll really like this book. It has Margery, Peggy the parrot lady, and Phil the invisible pot head, not to mention Helen's evil boss, Page Turner. He gets killed. I kill a lot of bosses in my books. Can't imagine why.
A list of my signings is on this Website. Hope you'll join me.
Also, I'm going to have to choose my next Dead-End Job. Stay tuned.
Elaine
